Vicki Hendrickson founded the Newburyport Literary Association in 2005. After
receiving a commitment from both the Newburyport Bank and the Institution for
Savings for seed money, she formed a steering committee that represented those
interested in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, history and young adult literature. The
committee then launched the Newburyport Literary Festival in 2006. It has been a
major success, hosting hundreds of writers and thousands of visitors. It even
thrived during Covid by utilizing Zoom! Vicki also re-started the Newburyport
Adult and Community Education Program. This multi-faceted learning resource
itself has served thousands over the past two decades. “The Newburyport area is a
great place for the arts,” said Vicki, a painter and a writer herself. “The community
loves activities that help provide a more stimulating environment.”
